U Star field, numerous missions advance the main plot. These are joined by various side missions that build lore and add depth to the adventure. One such mission, First Contact, explores what happens when two different groups have their eyes on the same prize. Here is our guide that explains how to complete First Contact in Star field.

Star field – how to complete First Contact

You have a lot of leeway when trying to complete missions like First Contact. You can try to find a peaceful solution, or you can shoot anything that moves, or somewhere in between. To complete First Contact, you must deal with the conflict that unfolds between two groups of settlers with legitimate claims to the same planet.

Talk to Chief Sugiyama

The mission begins with a guest call Porima II in cursed system. The main attraction on this planet is a huge hotel resort, Paradise. You are dating Chief Sugiyama in the ground floor office. Start with what you advise him to do.I’m here about the distress signal you sent.‘

Sugiyama insists on discretion. The answer, ‘Understood. I swear. Let me know what you need me to do.He then tells you about a huge ship that appeared in the atmosphere near the planet. His arrival creates problems, and attempts to contact the crew members are fruitless. Talk to him about the situation and earn his trust until the mission updates your next objective.

Welcome Unidentified Ship

Fast travel to outer space. A blue beacon guides you to the right area. When you show up, make your approach. The target ship is drifting in the air between you and Porima.

As you approach the vessel, press the button or key indicated Hail as usual. Try each of the four dialog options available. None of them respond other than beeps, clicks and distortions. At this point you have some additional options. I choose,’I don’t think it works. I’ll try the docking procedure and we can talk on board.‘

Following this answer, the mission moves on to the next (very short) step.

Dock with the ship and enter

Dock to the ship as shown. This process should not take much time. You just need to be close enough to Doc option will appear. As for me, my ship kept trying to target the lock while I slowly approached the other ship. If necessary, press a button or key to cancel the target lock, then quickly dock.

Talk to the captain of the ship

Now that you’re docked, find the captain aboard the ship. The blue mission beacon leads the way as usual. Walk down the hall, up the stairs, through the door and meet the waiting team members. I’m not sure what you’ll say when the conversation starts, but I went with “Man? I didn’t know there were other options.‘

If you ask,’What kind of ship is this?‘, you’ll know you’re on board Earth colony ship constant. He has a backstory that the captain shares. Then you can decide how to respond. I replied:Wait, don’t tell me: you’re going to ask me for some big favor.All the available answers are quite similar and should lead to roughly the same result. I was able to move on to the next goal when I chose “You know, those “others” are people, and they were here first.‘

Follow Captain Breckenridge

When the initial conversation has been completed to everyone’s satisfaction, follow the captain who leads you to Command bay. She tells you when she’s coming, but I suggest paying attention to your surroundings so you can find your way back to your ship later. I find it easy to get lost in the Colony Earth Ship Constant. At the end of the tour, it’s time to talk some more.

Talk to Captain Breckenridge

You can get more backstory here if you want. When you’re ready to move forward, select ‘Sounds like you need some help with your situation.“Then keep it up,”The people at Paradiso want the same thing. I will help.“Learn more backstory if you want, but the answer to moving on is:”I will try, but diplomacy may require compromise.‘

Although the captain hears what you’re saying, she doesn’t want to give anything up if she doesn’t have to. You have several options, but the one that seems to be moving forward is:OK, but no promises, I can convince them.This leads to the next stage of the mission.

Negotiate with Oliver Campbell

Return to Paradiso to talk to the boss. This part of the mission took me a long time because I kept getting lost and wandering around in circles. Remember that you are looking for a hatch on the lower level, not in the cafeteria.

When you return to your ship and cross to Paradiso, enter the main building and head to the elevator. Choose Executive floor and meet the person at the front desk. This briefly looks like a new sub-goal: Talk to Keavy. Just tell them:I kind of do. You have a problem with your ship in orbit and I’m here to help.This answer creates additional possible answers. Ask for details if you want and answer:I’m ready to go to the meeting room.‘

In the meeting room, meet the three leaders. Their names Baby girl, Oliverand Sima. If you approach, you can listen to their opinions on pressing issues. Talk to Balam. The line that worked for me was:I understand that you are the person I need to talk to about the strange ship in orbit.‘

When you’re done getting the details, say:Let’s just cut to the chase.Balam wants to know how you view the situation. I believe the answer here could really matter and affect any negotiations, but I’m not entirely sure. I know I have achieved a satisfactory end result by answering:Old Earth colonists desperate to settle in 200 years. I’m sure you can use it.‘

Further discussion between council members. They offer several solutions. When you get a response, say:Wait, why should I buy a Grav Drive?‘ You can explore other dialog options if you wish. Then you should say:I think I’ve made up my mind.‘

Now you have a few options that relate to the different options that the board was looking at. I choose,’I’ll buy a Grav Drive and convince them to settle elsewhere.‘ This choice led to the next mission objective. Also, in my case: ‘Andrew liked it.I was pretty sure she would.

Go to Hopetech

To continue the mission, you must purchase the Grav Drive from HopeTech. Your contact person is the person named Bennu St. James. Fortunately, you can most likely warp directly to that planet or simply activate a few points on your planet Star map along the way. I went to HopeTech a few times after figuring out how to join the Freestar Collective Rangers.

When you arrive at HopeTech, enter the main building and go upstairs. The blue beacon skillfully guides you. You’ll find Benna waiting in your office, and it’s time for another conversation.

Your opening line should be “I heard you are an expert in Grav Drives and other parts of the ship. I have a favor to ask.“Then say,”Oliver Campbell sent me. I’m here about the Grav Drive for the old colony ship.It prompts you to purchase a disk for 40,000 credits. That’s a lot. Use Convince a chance to talk to him a bit. I was successful after making the following choices:

1. How long have you had that old part? And no one has yet offered to buy it.
2. I know you would like to help me if you could.
3. I’m glad you’re starting to come around to my point of view.

Your character skills can influence your success. At the end of a successful negotiation, you must arrange for the part to be delivered to the Earth Colony Ship Constant. Then you need to return to the ship yourself.

Talk to Amin

Amin is a science officer aboard the Earth Colony Ship Constant. Fast travel to the ship and dock. Then follow the mission beacon and sign to find Amin Kazemi upstairs in Engineering region.

Let Amin play a little. When you found out Astrophysics skill as I had to answer with this dialogue option. Nothing seems to work. Finally, tell Amin you have something else to talk about. It all sounds like too much. This is even the most difficult part of the mission.

Prepare the ship for Grav Drive

Contrary to what the manual suggests, you can complete the three tasks outlined by Amin in any order. In addition, the game accepts individual tasks if you complete them correctly, but rejects tasks that you did not complete correctly. Try as often as necessary. You just need to visit the three blue mission nodes in the small chamber and perform the exact actions required.

The only difficult step to take is the one you take when accessing the Alpha engineering control computer. The first screen presents four visible options. None of the four options that first appear on the screen are correct. You have to scroll down to show more options. Choose Turbocharger – Port and then select Cryogenic radiator – Auxiliary on the next screen. It took me a few tries to figure it out.

Talk to Captain Breckenridge

After completing the three steps, you will receive the next mission objective. Talk to Captain Breckenridge again. To do this, you need to wander around the ship. After all, you can find it in Captain’s quarters square, behind closed doors.

Talk to Captain Breckenridge and tell her about your progress by saying that:Grav Drive installed. You should have everything ready.‘ You may continue as you please. I choose,’Where will you go now?‘ then, ‘No problems at all. Glad it worked out!‘

When the mission is completed, you will receive a reward. It worked 300 XP, ACP caliper (7) ammunition, Art Modified XM-2311, and some antique sports memorabilia and a piggy bank from Earth. It is not much, but at least there is something.
